The team was composed of: 3 plastic surgeons, one of whom was Ugandan and resident in Kampala and a member of Cute Project since 2013, 2 doctors, 2 anesthetists, 2 operating room nurses, a pediatric nurse, 2 Ugandan nurses, a South African occupational therapist<\/p>\n

La missione non si concentrava esclusivamente sui minori ma anche sugli adulti. Le vittime pi\u00f9 frequenti delle ustioni sono proprio i bambini<\/strong>. Nelle zone rurali, cucinare significa spesso accendere un fuoco a terra, con pentole colme di acqua o cibo bollente. I pi\u00f9 piccoli, giocando o correndo, finiscono facilmente per scottarsi gravemente.[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.24.3″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\nInterventions under general anesthesia<\/h4>\n
Sono stati eseguiti 43 interventi in anestesia generale, di cui 28 su bambini con meno di 15 anni<\/strong>. L\u2019et\u00e0 media era di 6 anni, con una mediana di 5. La maggior parte delle operazioni ha riguardato le conseguenze pi\u00f9 gravi delle ustioni<\/strong>: cicatrici profonde che, se non trattate correttamente, tendono a \u201cincollare\u201d le articolazioni, bloccando i movimenti. Cos\u00ec, aprire una mano, alzare un braccio, girare il collo e anche camminare pu\u00f2 diventare impossibile.[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.24.3″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.24.3″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\nThe other interventions<\/h4>\n
Oltre agli interventi in anestesia totale, sono stati effettuati 53 interventi in anestesia locale, tra cui 4 su ragazze tra i 14 e i 17 anni e 7 bambini con ustioni gravi<\/strong>, con un\u2019et\u00e0 media di appena 1,7 anni<\/strong>, sono stati trattati con medicazioni avanzate, eseguite in sedazione per ridurre al minimo il dolore e lo stress.[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.24.3″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\nFocus on the hands<\/h4>\n
This year the mission focused particularly on the hands. In some cases, the conditions were so compromised that it was not possible to reconstruct the hand even from an aesthetic point of view. Splints and pressure garments<\/h4>\n
In the 2025 mission, South African physiotherapist Jennifer Blenkisop has also carried out valuable work, working side by side with Ugandan nurse Doreen Uweera. Over the years, Doreen has acquired essential skills in the making of pressure garments and in the management of advanced dressings for patients with severe burns.<\/p>\n

During the mission, four lectures were held for doctors and medical students residing in the hospital<\/strong>. Missions like the one operated by Cute Project have a reach that goes far beyond the specific city or location. The children treated during the mission came from different regions of the country and some traveled up to 450 km to reach the care they urgently needed.<\/p>\n
